Tech innovations are changing the sports industry – technology helps athletes to scale their capabilities, develop more efficient methods for preparation and recovery, and achieve better results. Thanks to new technological solutions, the way of broadcasting sports contents and the involvement of spectators has been transformed, the growing gaming industry has opened a completely new dimension of sports, while innovations could play a key role for future successes of Serbia as a “sport nation”, which would require the main actors to join forces in creating an environment for the development of new ideas in this field.
These messages were sent today from the Colosseum Sports Tech Summit, a unique event that marked the start of the first sport-tech startup support program – Colosseum Sports Tech Serbia. The program is organized in cooperation between Scientific Technology Park Belgrade, an its supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia and Embbasy of Israel.
– We are pleased to launch this kind of program with the Israeli partners in order to encourage the development of sports technologies. Serbia is already recognized as a sports nation with valuable knowledge in technological development also. Therefore, Colosseum Sports Tech Serbia will encourage fulfilment of this potential in order to expand sports ecosystem in Serbia. By supporting start-ups in this area, Serbia has a chance to position itself as one of the leaders in development and implementation of sports tech solutions globally – said at the opening of the Colosseum Sports Tech Summit Jelena Petrovic, head for business development at STP Belgrade, inviting all who have an idea how to innovate in this industry to apply.
Colosseum Sports Tech Summit gathered athletes, sports associations, experts, entrepreneurs and international speakers who discussed challenges and opportunities in the new sports environment. Sport-tech solutions that have achieved a planetary success were presented by Intel Sports and Playsights from Israel, while popular VAR technology was presented by Orel Grinfeeld, the international football arbiter FIFA / UEFA, who also judged the Champions League matches. The future of sport was also discussed by startups and sports experts, as well as current and former athletes: basketball player, Secretary General of the Basketball Association of Serbia Dejan Tomasevic, volleyball player Vladimir Grbic, Israeli Olympic swimmer Adi Bichman, Serbian water polo team coach Dejan Savic, sports manager Miško Raznatovic, volleyball player and founder of KidCard Ivana Đerisilo, athletes Emir Bekrić, Nemanja Cerovac.
Oren Simanian, a serial entrepreneur and founder of the leading Israeli sport-tech organization Colosseum Sport, emphasized that he was glad that Colosseum Sports Tech Serbia would encourage the development of the Serbian startup scene in the sports industry and that the international experience of more than 100 Israeli start-ups in this area can be of great benefit.
– Serbia has demonstrated its exceptional ability to be ranked among the top sports nations in the world, while Israel recognizes itself as a center for entrepreneurship and innovation, with a particularly accelerated development of sports technologies in recent years. Colosseum Sports Tech Serbia will use the strengths of both countries to promote new technologies in sport and mark a new chapter in cooperation between Israel and Serbia.
Applications for startup teams and companies for the Colosseum Sports Tech Serbia program are open until May 26th at www.colosseum-serbia.rs. The selected startups will work from June to October with Israeli, Serbian and international mentors, technology entrepreneurs and leading athletes to develop their innovative projects, while the best among them will have the opportunity to get additional support during the study trip to Israel.
The opening ceremony of the Colosseum Sports Tech Summit at STP Belgrade was attended by the Assistant Minister of Education Science and Technological Development Saša Lazović, H.E. Ambassador of Israel in Serbia, Alona Fisher ann acting director of STP Belgrade Gordana Danilović-Grković.
