State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić, said to elementary school students who participated in the celebration of Day of girls in ICT to exploit new technologies in order to be successful in their future careers.

The event organized by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Matić pointed out that the European Commission envisaged disadvantage of over 800,000 ICT jobs in Europe by 2020, because currently there are not enough young people who are preparing to study in mathematics, engineering, computer science and Science. “The possibility of employment and career development in ICT, is just one of the reasons for your involvement in this sector. ICT can help you to achieve greater success in architecture, medicine, fashion industry, in any business, and to participate in creating a new world – not just as an observer, but an active social subjects, “said State Secretary girls.

The guests of the Ministry at the event held at the Science Technology Park were elementary school students from Sabac, Uba, Zrenjanin, Smederevo and Pozarevac, which was addressed by the Assistant Minister for Electronic Communications and Professor of Electrical Engineering Irini Reljin, acting director of the Science Technology Park Belgrade, Gordana Danilovic Grković, as well as representatives of successful technology companies Nordeus, Eipix, Ericcson and Microsoft. On this occasion, awards were handed to students who are created best blogs in the competition organized by Ministry.

The girls were also learning programming in a fun way at Microsoft workshops, using free Minecraft online programming guides for the bloc. Representatives of organizations Edulab held workshops in robotics, which is a part of the campaign caravan IT 02 Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, and prepared a presentation of the technology of virtual reality – VR world. Girls in ICT Day (Girls in ICT Day) is celebrated worldwide every fourth Thursday since April of 2010, on the initiative of the Republic of Serbia. More than 240,000 of girls and young women have participated in 7,200 events in 160 countries so far.

The theme of this year’s International Day of girls in ICT is “Expand your horizons, changing attitudes”.
