First Intellectual Property Guide for Serbian Startups Presented

IP Guide for Startups: Enterprising Ideas, the first publication of its kind for Serbian startups, has been presented today at Science Technology Park Belgrade. The IP Guide for Startups provides the necessary guidance on ways to use the intellectual property protection system to maintain competitiveness and understand the risks that may arise as a result of neglecting its importance in business operations.

The Guide is an adaptation of the publication of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), adapted to the Serbian IP protection system and procedures, with the examples of five Serbian innovative companies. It was developed as part of the plan for cooperation between the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia and the WIPO, in collaboration with and with support from Science Technology Park Belgrade and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, through the project “Technopark Serbia 2 – Boosting Exports through Technoparks“.

– Companies that develop tech innovations must incorporate IP protection in their business operations, so they can protect against and prevent unauthorized use of intellectual property. IP protection concerns business development; through it, startups develop their recognizable identity and protect their market competitiveness, and it is also essential for attracting investment – it was said in the presentation of the Guide.

The WIPO’s representatives at the event also presented different WIPO tools for incorporating IP matters in startup operations, while two innovative Serbian companies, Smartsy and mBrainTrain, shared their experiences with IP management in their operations.

The event was also attended by representatives of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, startups, and tech development companies, as well as representatives of science and research organizations and organizations supporting innovation development.
